"The world has reduced joy to feeling happy, peace to the absence of struggle, longsuffering to tolerance of sin, gentleness to tenderness, goodness to whatever makes one feel good about himself, faith to mere belief, meekness to passivity, and temperance to 'anything goes' in moderation. There may be some semblance of truth in some of these, but they represent a very shallow and superficial understanding of these qualities."

"Longsuffering certainly includes tolerance, but tolerance toward evil leads to an accommodation of evil, and finally to capitulation to it. Invariably, tolerance of evil results in intolerance toward the righteous (Proverbs 29:27)."
